Adult Education – Helping Write Success Stories

“Education is the key to success.” Education helps us unlock our full potential as workers, citizens, neighbors, parents, and so much more. But not everyone receives that foundational investment, and for many, the education they do receive is inadequate at preparing them for their present circumstances. Adult Education fills that gap – helping adults learn what they need to write their own success stories at home, at work, and beyond.

The federal government’s recent and proposed actions regarding adult education funding threaten the existence of these programs and their ability to provide vital services to vulnerable communities here in Colorado.

Our Adult Education Program

The Cultural Development & Wellness Center Adult Education program at Aurora Mental Health & Recovery helps immigrants, refugees, non-native English speakers, and others to gain the skills and knowledge they need to be self-sufficient in our community. Since its inception in 2003, the Adult Education program has served 95,000 learners and community members.

Our Services Include:

  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Family Literacy
  • General Educational Development (GED®) Program
  • Citizenship
  • Workforce Services

In the Last Year,

AMHR’s Adult Education program served 982 individuals, helping:

  • 491 students demonstrate measurable growth in their English skills
  • 5 students obtain their GED
  • 117 community members in the naturalization process
    • 19 students receive U.S. Citizenship
  • 26 students obtain employment
    • 3 students increase their livable wage
  • 62 students achieve Financial Literacy outcomes
  • And so much more!

With Aurora being one of the most diverse cities in Colorado (growing more diverse every day!), it’s impossible to quantify the impact our program has on folks adjusting to a new culture, language, and community.

We Need Your Help!

The future of our Adult Education program is in jeopardy. As a nonprofit organization, we rely on federal, state, and local government funding and the generosity of individuals like you to provide services to many of our community members who need help the most.

While the federal government recently ended its freeze on adult education grant funding, the Education Department plans to review grantees like Aurora Mental Health & Recovery, and there are no guarantees we’ll be able to continue these vital services going forward.

You can help preserve the future of our program and provide our friends and neighbors the opportunity to write their own success story. Just $10 helps provide school supplies for an Adult Education student. Visit AuroraMHR.org/Donate and select designation, "Support an Adult Education Student".
