The Cultural Development & Wellness Center GED program is a free program for individuals who want to prepare for a High School Equivalency (HSE) exam, like the General Educational Development (GED®) test, or do not need an HSE credential but desire to improve their basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Students in GED classes gain the academic skills and knowledge to pursue postsecondary opportunities, such as college certificate and degree programs. This allows them to be more successful in job training programs, advance in their careers, and become independent, lifelong learners. To participate, individuals need to be native English speakers or have near-native English-speaking ability. GED class instruction focuses on reading, writing, and mathematics, but also explores social studies and science topics.
In GED class, students follow an individualized course of study that includes lessons and homework practice from the online programs Aztec Software, Khan Academy, and New Readers Press. Our dedicated and skillful instructors provide students with feedback and assistance along their learning journey. With help from the instructor, GED students work on improving the organization, grammar, and mechanics of their writing.
Your Goals Are Our Goals
In addition to teaching general academic skills, which are valuable in the workforce, GED classes help students develop their own academic and career goals. Students collaborate with each other and gain confidence working with others. We also provide one-on-one academic support through our tutoring program and our drop-in Learning Lab.
