Intensive In-Home Services is a specialty team of mental health providers implementing trauma-informed, attachment-based therapy to youth ages 6–17 and their caregivers directly within client homes. As a family-driven service, our treatment model focuses on improving emotional regulation, parenting, and behavior management. We provide individual and family therapy that’s designed to meet the needs of each individual family. Active caregiver participation is required.

Our Focus

Our team of master’s-level therapists and bachelor’s-level behavioral health specialists provide therapeutic interventions and behavioral coaching for children and adolescents at risk of displacement from their homes and schools due to mental health challenges. Providing therapy services in the home allows us to witness behaviors as they happen in a child’s natural environment.

Our goal is to reduce the likelihood of out-of-home placement and higher levels of care, such as inpatient and residential treatment. Our team also connects families to outside resources and wrap-around services to address potential barriers to treatment.

Intensive Outpatient Therapy Services

We work with families who require more than traditional outpatient care. Our accelerated treatment model requires at least two hours of services per week. As a parent-driven program, we require commitment from the child’s caregiver to best promote recovery. Caregiver participation through self-awareness, skill implementation, and plan follow-through is fundamental to the success of mental health treatment.

How Intensive In-Home Therapy Works

A licensed therapist guides each family through insight building, skills training, and psychoeducation. A behavioral health specialist may offer supplemental support with skill reinforcement, behavior planning, and case management. Our team provides parent-child and parent-only therapy, both for the purpose of increasing safety, promoting emotional regulation, and processing trauma.

Where Treatment Occurs

Based at Aurora Mental Health & Recovery’s Hampden Center, our intensive in-home therapy program provides services at whatever location works best for the family. We determine the location of treatment services based on client needs and the results of a home environment screening. We may provide sessions at Hampden Center, the client’s home, school, and/or community locations such as a park or public library.

Where Culture Meets Care

Aurora is home to individuals from many cultures, languages, and backgrounds. We are committed to overcoming barriers and providing culturally sensitive care to everyone who needs it, in whatever language works best for them. We offer free language assistance to all clients.
