Aurora Mental Health & Recovery provides psychiatric Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) to individuals in Aurora, Colorado who are struggling with addiction. Our program combines medicine with other types of support to help people recover from substance use disorders.
A Substance Use Disorder (SUD), often referred to as “addiction”, is a complex condition in which individuals continually use drugs, alcohol, or tobacco even when it is hurting them. Individuals with a substance use disorder often understand the substance is bad for them, but they are unable to stop using it to the point where it impacts their ability to perform at work, take care of themselves, and maintain healthy relationships.
Recovery From Opioid Addiction & More
Our MAT clinic uses an evidence-based approach to substance use treatment that combines medication with counseling, therapy, and community support to improve recovery outcomes. Our “whole-person” approach to treatment is clinically driven and tailored to meet the needs of each individual client.
We support individuals struggling with a broad range of substances, including:
- Opioids: fentanyl, heroin, and prescription pain medications
- Alcohol: beer, wine, and liquor
- Stimulants: cocaine, methamphetamine, and prescription stimulants
- Sedatives/Hypnotics: benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, Klonopin), Z-Drugs (Ambien & Lunesta), and barbiturates
- Cannabis & Other Substances: marijuana, inhalants, hallucinogens, or synthetic drugs
Our MAT program has been shown to:
- Reduce cravings & withdrawal symptoms
- Improve engagement in recovery
- Support long-term wellness
How Does the MAT Program Work?
Comprehensive Assessment & Diagnosis
We begin by learning about each person’s history with drugs or alcohol, their mental and physical health, any medicines they’re taking, and support they may receive from family or friends. This helps us build a treatment plan that fits their personal needs and recovery goals.
Medication Management
Our MAT clinic prescribes evidence-based medications, approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for substance use treatment. Medication options include buprenorphine, naltrexone, gabapentin, and other drugs proven to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms. We explain how each medicine works, what side effects it might have, and how to use it safely. We also make sure it won’t cause problems with other medications the person might be taking.
Medication Access
Our patients can pick up their prescriptions at local pharmacies. For individuals dealing with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), including those seeking a Suboxone clinic near me, we prescribe all medications except methadone. Methadone is prescribed by providers who specialize in this kind of care. We refer patients who need this specific treatment to trusted community partners.
Integrated Mental Health Care
Many people struggling with addiction also experience mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We support clients’ recovery goals by coordinating our psychiatric medication services with our clinical programs such as Outpatient Services, Reset: Recovery Services, and Journey: Women’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). This partnership between our medical (psychiatric) and clinical (psychological) teams helps to ensure clients have full support for their mental health and addiction recovery.
Harm Reduction
People who use drugs from unsafe sources can be at risk of overdose or poisoning. We do not help anyone get or take illegal drugs, but we do work to keep people healthy and safe. We offer education, supplies, and support to help reduce harm. This includes giving out naloxone (Narcan), which can reverse opioid overdoses, and test strips to check for dangerous substances like fentanyl in drugs such as meth or marijuana.
Bilingual Services & Interpretation Available
We offer services in multiple languages. We have bilingual Spanish-speaking providers available. We also offer interpretation services in a variety of languages to allow clients to better communicate with our treatment staff.
